The new direction of LED lighting products, the future of healthy lighting is bright
In the era of increasing support for science and technology, people pay more and more attention to the quality of life, health and safety. The demand for lighting is not only used to help “see”, but to pay more attention to the deeper level of led lighting products. The “invisible” influence puts new demands on the health and comfort of the lighting environment.
Today, LED products have become the mainstream of the lighting industry. Blu-ray hazards still exist. Glare and flicker are also the main factors that cause LEDs to be harmful to health. People are also concerned about the concern of “energy saving” and the concern of “health and comfort”.
On November 20th, 2017, the national key research and development plan “Strategic Advanced Electronic Materials” key project “Photobiomechanism and Application Research for Health Lighting” was launched in Suzhou.
Taking “light and health” as the core of research, through the related comparison research and light quality evaluation experiments, the short-, medium-, and long-term effects mechanisms and laws of semiconductor lighting on human health are determined, and the corresponding physiological and pathological databases are formed. By clarifying the photobiological influence mechanism of semiconductor lighting products and forming an objective physiological index evaluation method, a technical solution for improving the health of semiconductor lighting products, industrial application of healthy lighting, and a “light health” standard system will be established.
What is health lighting?
The so-called health lighting is to improve and improve the conditions and quality of people’s work, study and life through LED lighting, and promote psychological and physical health.
At present, there are two major problems in home lighting. One is that the blue light is too high, and the other is that the red light is too small. We usually look at the phone, the eyes are particularly tired, because the blue light is too high, it will not only hurt the eyes, but also affect the endocrine. Japanese inventor Nakamura Shuji, the inventor of blue-light LEDs, said that the first-generation blue LEDs that are commonly used now do have some damage to the eyes and can cause cancer in severe cases. If the red light is too low, it will cause skin irritation and induce depression.
Whether it is incandescent lamps used in our daily home lighting, or various decorative colored lights, if the irrational use, uncontrolled abuse, excessively light, too dark, or too ambiguous, too variable, will be on the human body Health causes a certain level of damage. And health lighting puts special requirements on important indicators such as lighting quality, technology, illumination, uniformity, glare, stroboscopic, color rendering, color temperature, and radiation.
Lin Yandan, a professor at the Department of Light Source and Lighting Engineering at Fudan University, pointed out: “The evaluation of lighting quality should be based on the evaluation of a single visual effect, gradually over-evaluating the dual evaluation of visual effects and non-visual effects, especially the latter is closely related to human health. The effects of circadian rhythms and biological effects also revisit and reflect on the definition of lighting quality.”
Bright prospects for the health lighting industry
Lighting science research is deepening, and the relationship between light and health is increasingly being discovered by humans. For example, lighting has expanded into the field of non-visual biological effects. Many studies have shown that the non-visual effect of light on the human eye through the retina The sensation of light by ganglion cells can affect melatonin release, sleep and biorhythm at night. Research on the influence of light color on human physiological parameters, Lin Yandan, a professor at Fudan University, said that the results show that light has the advantages of changing life rhythm, inhibiting melatonin secretion, increasing core temperature, speeding up heart rate, and improving alertness. . Therefore, its future has broad application prospects, such as the treatment of seasonal affective disorders, the use of red and yellow night lights to help sleep.
These all indicate that the future of the health industry is bright. In today’s lighting market, from the perspective of environmental protection and energy-saving products, the market has become saturated. From the health to the market, it is a blue ocean. Nobel Prize winner Nakamura Shuji gave a speech at Fudan University in December last year, proposing the first generation of LED products. The presence of blue light hazards, and even serious causes of cancer, is present in most of the current market, including government buildings, banks, and even hospitals, schools, and families. Therefore, with health as the guide, the market will reshuffle and force.
The data from the market also shows that the cake of China’s big health industry is huge. The data show that the annual output value of China’s health service industry only accounts for about 5% of GDP, while the US data has reached 17.6% in 2009. According to estimates by relevant departments, by 2020, the total size of China’s health service industry will reach more than 8 trillion yuan.
